Adamawa Senator Aishatu Binani has dismissed reports alleging the federal government failed to install solar streetlights in her senatorial district, even after funding became available.
The report alleged that the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDG) used imaginary solar street lighting projects in some communities in the state.
The senator, who represents Adamawa Central, described the report as false and misleading.
She said the All in One solar streetlights were installed in five of the seven local government areas in her senatorial district by OSSAP-SDG, as stated in the terms of the contract.
The local government areas are: Fufore, Yola North, Yola South, Song and Hong, and each has 320 all-in-one solar street lights to the credit of the senior special assistant to the president. Muhammadu Buhari about the SDGs.
In a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES, Ms. Binani explained that the project was launched and executed to the admiration of many, as it was a dream come true for the beneficiaries.
“The installation of these lights was perfectly executed and evenly distributed across the wards, wards and special areas of need in consultation with some stakeholders and traditional rulers from the various local government areas.
“On August 6, 2020, at around 8:30 pm, a symbolic commissioning of the street lighting projects took place in the Limawa district in Yola North, and was witnessed by some stakeholders, officials from the party and holders of traditional titles”.
He further said that he facilitated the implementation of the project due to high demand from people in the 76 districts of his constituency, which will help curb the increasing incidents of rape, robbery, murder and other atrocities that were usually perpetrated under the cover of darkness. in your district. areas
The senator, who is also the chair of the Senate SDG Committee and facilitator of the project, challenged anyone with doubts to visit the 56 districts in the Yola South, Yola North, Fufore, Song and Hong local government areas for his confirmation. Ms Binani’s statement comes some five days after OSSAP-SDG released a similar statement, dismissing the report.
The statement by Rotimi Ajayi, head of the communications unit, revealed that the federal government fully executed the 1 billion naira contracts for the installation of solar street lights in Adamawa state.
“OSSAP-SDGs hereby categorically denies the suggestion that the contracts were not carried out according to the terms of the award.
“For the avoidance of doubt, OSSAP-SDGs wishes to state emphatically that the contract was fully and properly executed in strict adherence to due process and for the benefit of the good people of Adamawa,” part of the statement read.
