The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has reimbursed 326,000 vessels that were illegally withdrawn from the bank account of a University of Benin (UNIBEN) student, Diemesor Gabriel.
The commission’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, revealed this in a statement on Friday.
“It came as a Christmas present for Diemesor Gabriel, a 21-year-old Chemical Engineering student at the University of Benin, when on Friday, December 24, 2021, Adesola Amusan, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Zonal Command of the Economic Command and Crimes Commission Financiers, presented him with a bank draft of N326,000 (Three Hundred Twenty-Six Thousand Nairas) ”, said the statement announcing the reimbursement.
According to the commission, the 21-year-old chemical engineering student had submitted, in September 2021, a petition to the commission regarding an illegal bank withdrawal of N326,000 out of the N600,000 awarded as a scholarship.
Uwujaren said that the commission, after receiving his request, launched the investigation and was able to arrest three suspects and recovered the illegally withdrawn money.
The refund was presented to him as a bank draft by Adesola Amusan, a deputy commander in the commission’s Benin Zonal Command, the statement added.

Mr. Diemesor, who said he had given up hope, received the bank draft with joy and congratulated the commission on a job well done.
“The commission has done very well. I was pleasantly surprised when they called me. I had given up hope when the scammers withdrew the money, “Diemesor said.
He added that the commission had made him smile since the money was for school expenses, projects and maintenance.
In reaction, Amusan said the commission will continue to carry out its duties diligently, ensuring relief for fraud victims and bringing perpetrators to account.
