Ayomide, others shine in the first Open Darts Championship of Lagos
Ogunowo Ayomide, Adeyemi Saheed and Bisiriyu Kudus have emerged as winners in the men’s and women’s, girls and boys junior open categories at the first ever Lagos Open Darts Championship held at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Upcoming star Ogunnowo Ayomide beat old horse Bokini Kehinde 3-2 to win the women’s category of the two-day competition, while Yekini Riskat and Maria Okpara finished third and fourth respectively.

The men’s class, Adeyemi Saheed, eliminated Damola Oluwagbenga 3-1, while Famakin Pius and Olaore Olatunde settled for joint third place.

In the Junior Girls box, Ayomide, again, beat Balogun Fathia 3-1 defeated in a previous game and decided to win the prize for the girls’ class. However, Hameedah Arowofella and Obayomi Usrot finished the event in third joint position.

Playing in the Junior Boys group, Bisiriyu Kudus finished first, beating Adu Finyinfoluwa to second place, while Okafor Samuel and Jubril Yinusa were third together.

Speaking at the event, the president of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku, congratulated the president of the Lagos State Darts Association (LASDA), Adegbenga Odofin, for a job well done.

Also speaking, LASDA Technical Director Joachim Idada said: “Darts as a sport are moving from the recreation center to the sports field. We hope that very soon we will be able to hold a championship in the main hall of the Teslim Balogun stadium.

“The aim of the competition, from a technical perspective, is that we hope to be able to prepare the players with the possibility that, if things go well, they can be exposed to international events.

But for them to go international, they have to hone their skills locally. We want to start what we call a ranking system that will help us develop them on a monthly basis by having the top four in the men’s and women’s categories, ”he said.
