A man arrested for allegedly being the native doctor who prepared spells for the Yoruba nation’s agitator Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, was released after being detained by the State Security Service (SSS) for more than five months. .
Dada Ifasooto’s lawyer announced his release in a statement on Friday.
The lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said in the statement that Mr. Ifasooto was secretly arrested on July 16, 2021, and his whereabouts remained unknown until the SSS released a detainee.
Ifasooto’s arrest on July 16 came 15 days after the secret police broke into Igboho’s home in the Soka area of the city in the early hours of July 1.
Olajengbesi described the allegations as bizarre in the statement announcing his release on Friday.
He said that the treatment received by Mr. Ifasooto also underpinned the alleged ongoing persecution of Mr. Igboho, who is detained for months in the neighboring Republic of Benin.
“This is to announce the release of Mr. Dada Ifasooto, who was secretly arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) on July 16, 2021 on the accusation that he is a native doctor who prepares charms for Chief Sunday. Igboho.
“Messrs. Dada Ifasooto’s whereabouts were unknown for months until one of the detainees released into SSS custody informed our office that he is in secret service custody in an underground locker.
“The bizarre accusations against Mr. Dada Ifasooto and his imprisonment defy logical and legal thinking and underpin the ill-motivated persecution of Chief Sunday Igboho and his associates,” the statement read in part.
He added: “Among other things, it exposes the antics of the State Security Service in this matter, even when it highlights the ridiculous and illegal extension that the agency is willing to do.
“Mr. Dada Ifasaato, the latest victim of the stray arms of the DSS (SSS), although he regained his freedom after months of deprivation and the suffering of the indignity of his detention, has to deal with the trauma of his experience throughout his entire life. . “

Twelve of Sunday Igboho’s aides arrested at the house were transferred to Abuja for prolonged detention in violation of court orders.
Despite court orders for their release, the last two of the 12 aides were released only in late October after they had spent approximately 114 days in detention.
In September, the Oyo State High Court ordered the SSS to pay 20 billion naira to Sunday Igboho for the invasion of his home in Ibadan.
The judge, Ladiran Akintola, ruled that the money was awarded as “exemplary and aggravated damages” against the SSS in the lawsuit filed by Mr. Igboho, in which he sought N500 billion in invasion damages.
Mr. Igboho, who was declared wanted by the SSS after his home invasion, was arrested later in July while trying to catch a flight to Germany from Cotonou in the Republic of Benin.
He has been detained in the neighboring country where he has been accused of violations of immigration laws.
