President Muhammadu Buhari says his wish is to build a good, safe and secure place for future generations of Nigerians.

Buhari, represented by the Secretary of Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, gave security in Yola on Friday at the burial of Brigadier General Dzarma Zurkushi and seven other soldiers.

Remember that Zirkushu was the commander of the 28th task force of “Operation Hadin Kai” in Chibok, Borno.

He died on November 13 along with the other seven soldiers as he rushed to reinforce troops in a counteroffensive against terrorists.

The president expressed his sadness at the death of the brave and gallant officers.

“The tragic loss of our brave soldiers is not only for the family of the deceased, but for the country and the armed forces in general.

“My wish is to bequeath to future generations of Nigerians a safe and secure place where each and every child will be able to air their aspirations and live in peace and quiet.

“I express my gratitude for the rare display of bravery displayed by the deceased in their quest to protect the country in the war against terrorists,” said Buhari in the message read by Mustapha.

In his remarks, Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri described the death of the late Zurkushi and other officers as a major setback in the counterinsurgency campaign.

Fintiri said that Zurkushi’s death is still one more death in an unnecessary war.

“For us in Adamawa, it is a dark day and one of the scariest in Nigeria’s campaign against terrorists.

“With the death of Zirkushu, we have lost a son and a patriot; a highly decorated soldier and prominent commander whose attack on insurgents rekindled the hopes of communities and rebuilt broken lives.

“We owe to the dead a total triumph over the enemies of Nigeria; we must ensure their total defeat and the complete return of our people to their normal lives and ancestral abodes, ” he said.
