The Federal Government has clarified that it has no intention of reviving the botched Nigeria Air project with Ethiopian Airlines.
This comes after Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, sparked inquiries with his remarks during a handover ceremony in Abuja.
Kana had stated that he received clear instructions to achieve two tasks: ensuring the national carrier becomes a reality and sanitizing airports across the country.

However, in a subsequent statement on Wednesday, Kana clarified that he never said there was a mandate to revive the botched Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines.
“I received no such instruction.
“I was only referring to the general vision of the administration to still consider a national carrier project if it is favourable to the country and under the guidance and directives of Mr. President and the Minister of Aviation,” Kana emphasized.
The botched Nigeria Air project was conceived by former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, but was suspended due to allegations of corruption.
A court order also halted the project in August 2024.
