In commemoration of the 2024 International Day of Charity, Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti has paid the hospital bills of six persons totalling over 3 million Naira at Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
She also assisted over 50 traders at Orie-Ugba market in Umuahia with cash grants to improve their business operation.
Abia First Lady, Mrs. Otti explained that the gesture aims to keep in tune with the agenda of Governor Ottis’ administration towards improving the welfare of the people.
Mrs Otti promised that such visits would be made regularly while encouraging well meaning individuals to support the less privileged in society particularly in times of economic challenges
At Orie-Ugba market Mrs Priscilla Otti hinted that the market would be rebuilt to enable a more conducive trading environment.
Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Blessing Ngozi Felix, explained that beneficiaries of the medical bills payment had since been discharged but could not afford to pay their bills until the intervention of the Governor’s wife.
The Abia Governor’s wife appreciated the dedication of the management and staff of the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia and urged them to continue their service in saving lives.
Beneficiaries of the intervention including Michael Udoh, Odiwonma Finest and Caroline Akachukwu among others expressed deep gratitude to the wife of the Governor for the kind gesture and prayed God to bless her.
The wife of the Governor, who was accompanied by the wife of the deputy governor Mrs. Adaeze Emetu and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable Groups, Mrs. Ifeoma Thomas extended same gesture of payment of hospital bills and financial support to traders in Aba.
Also 100 traders in markets located in Isialangwa North and Isialangwa South received financial grants from Mrs. Otti. She also distributed launch to indigent persons in Aba and Umuahia in commemoration of World Charity day.
