In a pivotal meeting held at the heart of Abia State, Governor Otti welcomed Mr. Mike Ervin, the Political and Economic Section Chief of the US Consulate in Lagos, and his team. Seizing the opportunity to articulate his administration’s vision and the hurdles facing the state, Governor Otti emphasized the critical role that the United States could play in bolstering Abia’s economic resurgence.
Highlighting the challenges confronting businesses in the state, Governor Otti outlined issues such as unreliable power supply, limited access to credit facilities, and a lack of logistical support in the digital economy sphere. These obstacles have hampered the growth and competitiveness of enterprises in Abia, stifling their potential to thrive in the global market.
Despite these challenges, Governor Otti exuded optimism, underscoring the strides made in addressing the longstanding issue of power deficiency in Abia. With the imminent commissioning of the Geometric Power project, slated for February 26, 2024, the governor expressed confidence that this milestone would usher in a new era of reliable electricity supply, catalyzing industrial activities and attracting investments to the state.
Governor Otti painted a vivid picture of Abia’s economic landscape, portraying it as a vibrant ecosystem teeming with over 50,000 individual shoe producers, garment manufacturers, leather artisans, and a myriad of small and medium enterprises. However, Governor Otti lamented the setbacks inflicted upon Abia by decades of infrastructural neglect, which led to the closure or relocation of many enterprises.
