The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubuhas joined other African first ladies in re-emphasizing collective action towards environmental sustainability and the eradication of gender inequality.
The first lady who was one of the guest speakers at the Launch of the We Are Equal Campaign and the Zero Waste Movement Agreement of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), in Maputo, Mozambique, noted that her initiative, Initiative Renewed Hope would advance these ideals using education as a tool.
“I have decided to use education as a tool to promote the ‘We are equal’ campaign of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). This effectively aligns with the mission of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), driven by my office to complement the efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu stated that an alternative secondary school for girls would soon be established to provide girls who drop out of school with the opportunity to acquire secondary education that would enable them to move on to higher education institutions.
“This program not only recognizes the inherent potential of each girl, but also serves as a catalyst for empowerment, offering a personalized educational approach that resonates with her unique circumstances.”
In the area of environmental sustainability, the first lady noted that through the collaborative efforts of the government and the private sector, tangible results have been achieved in waste reduction and innovative recycling programs.
“This synergy is a testament to the power of cooperation in implementing sustainable solutions at scale. But have we already reached that point? Not precisely.”

He re-emphasized that the objective of the Tinubu administration, which supports the Renewed Hope Initiative, is to ensure that women in Nigeria engage in productive activities that contribute to the socio-economic development of individuals, communities and the nation at large.
“Nigeria is a testament to the power of collaboration in closing the educational and economic gap to promote gender equality. We firmly believe that empowering women and girls through education not only transforms their lives but also contributes to the overall progress of our nation,” she stated.
President Filipe Nyusi declared open the event, which was attended by the first ladies of Zimbabwe, Kenya, Botswana and Malawi.
The first lady of Rwanda and the queen of Estwani were represented.
