The Defense Headquarters has described as “misleading” a video circulating on social networks in which soldiers are seen mistreating some women. The video clip is titled “Operation Rainbow in Plateau State”.

Acting Director of Defense Information Tukur Gusau, in a statement on Saturday, called the video misleading.

Brigadier Gusau said the video in question originated from an incident that occurred in 2021 in Sambisa Forest, involving spouses of Boko Haram members during the capture of their strongholds.

He said the video never came from Plateau State, and “not in Plateau as claimed.”

“DHQ would like to clarify that the soldiers involved in the above incident were promptly disciplined and dealt with by the military authority at the time it occurred for their unprofessional conduct.

“The release of this old video, with a misleading location label, is causing unnecessary alarm and has the potential to exacerbate the security situation on Plateau.

“We urge the person responsible for circulating this video to cease and desist from further disseminating it, as their actions only serve to add more fuel to the security challenges currently being addressed by Operation Safe Haven,” he said.

Gusau said the armed forces were actively engaged in aggressive operations and were dedicated to bringing to justice the perpetrators of recent dastardly acts.

According to him, the DHQ remains committed to fostering peace and stability in Plateau State and calls on stakeholders and the public to support the efforts by refraining from spreading misinformation that may undermine the collective objective of ensuring security and well-being of the residents. .
