Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has demonstrated his commitment to transforming the infrastructure of Aba by formally commissioning three newly reconstructed roads in the city. These roads, namely Udeagbala Road, Umuimo Road, and MCC/Old Express Road, hold strategic importance according to Governor Otti. He explained that Udeagbala and Umuimo roads serve as alternative routes from the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway into the bustling Aba-Owerri Road and lead to Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH). Meanwhile, the MCC/Old Express Road is expected to bolster Aba’s economic activity, solidifying its status as the commercial nerve center of the state.
Governor Otti, reflecting on his pre-election promises, emphasized his commitment to allocating the necessary resources for the infrastructural development of Aba. His vision is to transform Aba into a model city that supports both contemporary and traditional businesses, fosters family life, and accommodates leisure activities. The governor commended the efficiency and quality of work delivered by the three construction companies—Craneburg, Ferotex Construction Company (FCC), and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC)—engaged in the projects. Otti expressed gratitude for their prompt completion and announced plans to reward them with additional projects. He reassured the people that no part of the state would be neglected in his road construction policies, highlighting that several rural roads have already been awarded for construction.
Speaking about the recently commissioned roads, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti, emphasized their quality, including drainages and solar-powered street lights. He underscored the remarkable speed of the government’s efforts, noting that three more roads were being commissioned after a similar event just seven weeks ago. Oti urged the beneficiaries to actively participate in protecting the infrastructure.
During the commissioning of Umuimo Road, Prof. John Chikezie, the acting Medical Director of ABSUTH, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for fixing the road, emphasizing its strategic importance for the hospital. He also commended the governor for regularizing staff salaries, boosting morale among ABSUTH workers.
Representatives of the community, including Chief Jerry Kalu, President of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), and industrialist Ideh John Udeagbala, conveyed their appreciation to Governor Otti. They credited him with revitalizing businesses in Aba and pledged their prayers and continued support.
