The Election Petition Tribunal of the National and State Assembly, sitting in Kano, confirmed the election of Abdullahi Mu’azu of the Congress of all progressives (APC).
Mr. Mu’azu represents Kabo/Gwarzo Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives.
He defeated the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Nasiru Garo, and others.
Garo filed a petition with the court alleging that the election was marred by irregularities and did not comply with the Electoral Act of 2022.
Furthermore, Garo told the court that his main rival, Mu’azu, did not win the election with the majority of legitimate votes cast during the election.
Garo complained that there were incidents of over-voting in at least 20 polling stations and presented 20 witnesses to the court who testified against the APC candidate.
Garo also asked the court to declare Mr Mu’azu unqualified to contest the elections arguing that he did not attach his educational certificates in the expression of interest form he submitted to INEC.

But the three-judge panel, headed by Flora Azinge, dismissed the petition for lack of evidence.
“None of the witnesses presented by the petitioner managed to discredit the evidence of the respondents (Mr Muazu), therefore we find no merit in this petition and accordingly dismiss it,” Ms Azinge said.
Mr. Garo can appeal the court’s ruling to the Court of Appeal.
