He Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast sunshine and cloudiness Monday through Wednesday across the country. The NiMet weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday forecasts a sunny atmosphere with few cloud patches over the northern region.
He anticipated thunderstorm prospects in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna states through the afternoon and evening.
A cloudy atmosphere with patches of sunshine is forecast over the central north with a chance of thunderstorms early in the morning over parts of Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger and Kwara states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger and the Plateau.
“Cloudy atmosphere is forecast over inland states and southern coastal cities with the prospect of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom State,” it said.
The agency was forecasting thunderstorms across the region later that day.

“Cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is forecast over the north central region with the prospect of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and the Plateau State during the afternoon and evening.
Cloudy atmosphere is expected over inland states and southern coastal cities with the prospect of morning thunderstorms over Ogun, Cross River, Awka Ibom, Rivers and Lagos states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Awka Ibom and Cross River State,” it said.
NiMet anticipated sunny weather on Wednesday with some patches of clouds over the northern region with the prospect of thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa states later that day.
It predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine over the central-north during the entire forecast period.
Cloudy atmosphere is expected over inland states and southern coastal cities with the prospect of morning thunderstorms over parts of Ogun and Lagos states.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over Imo, Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River, Awka Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
“For areas where thunderstorms are expected, high winds are likely to precede showers and as such trees, power poles, unsecured objects and weak buildings may be downed,” it said.
The agency advised the public to exercise caution and stay indoors, especially during heavy rain, to avoid being struck by lightning.
He urged all airline operators to periodically take advantage of the weather reports from his office for effective planning of their operations.

“Moderate to heavy rains could cause flash flooding. The public is advised to take the necessary precautions.
“Disaster risk managers, agencies and individuals need to be proactive to prevent loss of life and property during the rainy season,” he said.
