He Nigerian Association of Anthropological and Sociological Professionals (NASA) has elected new executive members to drive the association’s agenda.
The election took place during the association’s 27th annual conference which was held at Baze University, a private tertiary institution located in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
The theme of this year’s conference is: “Social Dynamics, Value Orientation and Nigeria’s Future: The Need for Strong Institutions.”

The association elected Hauwa’u Yusuf, a professor at Kaduna State University, as president of the association. He succeeds Nkemdili Nnonyelu, a professor working at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The association also elected six vice presidents, one from each of the country’s six geopolitical zones. Aniefiok Ukommi from the University of Uyo was elected South-South Vice President; Agnes Njoku, Professor at Imo State University as Vice President, South East, and Sakiru Raji, Lagos State University, Vice President, South West.
Additionally, Jurji Gomos of Plateau State University was elected Vice President, North-Central; Aminu Dukku, a professor at the University of Bayero, Kano, was elected Vice President of the Northwest; and Epron Silas of the Gombe College of Health Sciences and Technology, was elected Vice President to represent the North East.
Suleiman Barnabas and Chris Onyemenam from Baze University, Abuja, were elected Secretary General and Legal Counsel respectively.
Emmanuel Nwakanma of the University of Port Harcourt was elected Assistant Secretary and Eze Nwokocha, a professor at the University of Ibadan, was elected Editor-in-Chief of the association.
Others include Abraham Evans, Nigeria Police University, Wudil, Kano State, who was elected as Publicity Secretary; Imuetinyan Iguodala-cole from Bingham University, Abuja was elected Welfare Officer while Jamilu Bello from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto was elected Treasurer.

Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony of the conference, the association also inducted 17 people as its members.
These fellows include Deputy Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, Ahmed Abdulrahman, and the current Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Suleiman Mohammed, a professor.

The Nigerian Sociological and Anthropological Practitioners Association (NASA) is the established body for the regulation of the teaching and practice of Sociology in Nigeria.
The association is registered as a non-governmental organization.
NASA as a professional body was launched on March 20, 1971 at UI, following a pre-launch meeting held on January 15, 1971 and chaired by Essien Udom, Professor.
