Former President Olusegun Obasanjo led a team of Nigerian businessmen and government officials in Kinshasa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo/Nigeria Business Council Summit.

According to a statement from Obasanjo’s media aide Kehinde Akinyemi, the team left Nigeria on Thursday for the summit scheduled to start on Friday in the DRC capital.

of Anambra State and the Executive Secretary of the National Action Committee on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and former head of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo.

Also on the team are Wale Adeosun, an industrialist; and Leke Adebiyi, diplomat and deputy secretary general of the council.

They were received on the ground in Kinshasha by Council President and former Director General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nteranya Sanginga, Nigerian businessman Jimi Lawal, and Oyo State Governor’s Representative Debo Akande.

The Governor of Kaduna State and Vice President of the DR Congo/Nigeria Business Council Nasir El-Rufai, Aliko Dangote of Grupo Dangote and Stella Okoli of Emzor Paracetamol, among others, are expected to join the meeting.

At the last summit held in Lagos in December, President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed the establishment of the Council, saying it would boost trade relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the council’s deputy secretary, Mr. Adebiyi, said no less than 30 prospective investors from Nigeria, from the health, education, agriculture, communications, energy and finance sectors, will attend the summit.
