The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday expelled Dotun Babayemi, one of the candidates who competed for the party’s governorship in the recently concluded elections in the state.
The party expelled Babayemi after a disciplinary committee found him guilty of engaging in anti-party activities.
The committee was established by Otun Balogun Ward 2 in the Ayedaade local government area of the state.
Mr. Babayemi is currently on the Supreme Court after losing in the state high court and the appeals court to seek a trial that would overturn the primary election that produced Ademola Adeleke as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
Ogunleye Bukayo, the district secretary who revealed the details of the expulsion at a news conference in Osogbo, said all efforts by the committee to persuade the former gubernatorial hopeful to engage in anti-partisan activities were unsuccessful.
Mr. Bukayo explained that the decision to expel Mr. Babayemi from the party was followed by the constitution of the party.

“The party’s District Executive Committee at its meeting on July 20, 2022 received the disciplinary committee’s report and, after careful and extensive deliberations, ratified the disciplinary committee’s report,” it said.
“The District Executive Committee of the Party, in exercise of the powers vested in it by sections 57 (2) and 59 (1) (g) of the PDP constitution, hereby dismisses and expels Prince Dotun Babayemi from the Democratic Party Popular. Therefore, he ceases to be a member of the PDP henceforth,” Babayemi said.

In his reaction, Kayode Oladeji, a spokesperson for Babayemi, described the disciplinary committee as “buffoons who enjoy having fun.”
“Those who carried out the shenanigans that called the expulsion of Omooba Dotun Babayemi from the PPD, do not know the rules that govern the party; they and their patrons are only being half astute in their attempt to intimidate Babayemi, a man of the people,” he said.
