The governor of the state of Kano, Abdullahi Gantuve, recalled on Wednesday how in 2014 the former transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi, was allegedly persecuted by the previous government of Goodluck Jonathan for trying to convince his supporters to join the Congress of all progressives.
Mr. Amaechi met with Mr. Gantuve while in Kano to garner the support of state delegates for the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
Mr. Gantuve repeatedly praised Mr. Amaechi while calling him Mr. Project.
He said that the Nigerian government’s railway projects under the supervision of Mr. Amaechi connecting Kano with other cities have cemented Kano’s position as a major commercial hub in West Africa.
“But the important thing is that we know your background, we know what you could do, we fought together. I remember when you (Mr. Amaechi) came to Kano to convince us to join APC, you were not allowed to take your flight out of Kano.

“The federal government at the time was after you, you were tracked down in Kano discussing how to form a meager party that would defeat a sitting government, you (Mr Amaechi) drove from Kano to Abuja by road, I still remember that we know how you suffered, he said Gandu.
The governor told the meeting that when he told his friend in Rivers (Governor Nyesom Wike while in Kano for the presidential campaign) that he would be a good loser, “I think I was fighting for you (Mr. Amaechi), you could understand where I was going when I mentioned that.”
“Your Excellency, another issue that is in your favor is that in our party, some people believed that the next president should come from the north of the country, but we said no, by making such a statement, you are still in the market. .
“You’re welcome, there is no doubt that Kano is a swing state, we will sway as we continue to pray,” he said.
