The head of the Senate caucus, Orji Uzor Kalu, has called the National Labor Committee (NWC) of the Congress of all progressives (APC) to reveal the party’s zoning formula ahead of the 2023 primary election.
Mr. Kalu, in a statement he issued to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, said he would only run for the Office of the President of the post-zoned party to the south-east.
According to him, the revelation has become extremely important, as it will help direct the applicants on the right path to follow and according to the demands of the party.
Mr. Kalu noted that the pattern used in conducting the party’s last convention was commendable and should be emulated in future contests.
“As the presidential primary election approaches, the issue of zoning is once again central and, as always, contentious.
“The party is preparing to make forms available for different elected offices and it is important that the party, as a matter of urgency, reveal its zoning plans to potential applicants.
“Office zoning is very important as it will not only shed light on the path of the contenders, but it will also save the party from unnecessary disagreements and litigation after the primaries.
“My previous calls and those of other political leaders, stakeholders, opinion makers, among others, about the need for sensitivity towards the southeastern region that has been excluded from the presidency should be of concern to all well-intentioned Nigerians with a conscience.
“The year 2023 is really a good time to modify our democratic experiment and create a timeless story in a way that shows sensitivity to the cultural uniqueness of the country and makes all regions feel a sense of belonging.
“It is time to strengthen the unity of the country by making a southeasterner the president of Nigeria.
“There is no better time for it than now.
“Today in our country, having built a formidable distribution in all regions, I consider myself the most detribalized Nigerian with rich experience in economics, business, politics, security and sports to lead the people and manage the economy. .
“I will run for the office of president if the party places him in the southeast.
“However, absent the southeast zoning, I understand the party’s supremacy and will abide by the party’s decision,” he said.

On the unity of the country, Mr. Kalu encouraged Nigerians to end tribalism and all the factors that hinder the achievement of national unity in Nigeria.
“Although Nigeria faces serious challenges in maintaining security and national unity, we must understand that we are made to stand together as a society. I believe in the unity of this country because we are better as one.
“If the potential of the country’s citizens is properly harnessed, we will see more reasons to embrace each other and win together.
“Therefore, we are obliged to stand firm and forget all other factors such as tribalism, hatred, among other factors that impede the achievement of national security and unity in Nigeria,” Mr. Kalu said. (YAYA)
