The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an alleged fake lawyer, Adekola Adekeye, in Lagos on charges of identity theft and forgery, a statement from the commission said on Thursday.
The anti-corruption agency statement signed by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said Mr Adekeye had visited the commission’s Lagos area on Tuesday posing as a lawyer to secure the release of a detained fraud suspect.
However, the statement says he was exposed when investigators dug further to verify the documents he turned over to secure bail for the detained suspect:

Fake lawyer in the EFCC network for forgery, identity theft
Agents of the Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested a fake lawyer, Adekola Adekeye, whose business activity is the falsification of documents to commit fraud.
Adekeye’s tribulation began on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 when he arrived at EFCC Lakes Command posing as a lawyer to secure bail for an alleged swindler who is in the custody of the Commission.
However, Nemesis caught up with Adekeye, when investigators dug deeper to verify the documents he turned in to secure bail for the alleged scammer.
A search of his residence also uncovered several forged documents dating back to 2005, including Lagos State University and documents from the Kwara State College of Education.
He also claimed to be the owner of “AA Emmanuel & Co. Chambers”, which he had been using to perpetrate fraud until his arrest.
He will soon be processed in court.
In the meantime, the Commission will continue to ensure that impostors who use false personalities and documents to secure suspects’ bail face the wrath of the law.
