President Joe Biden said on Friday, as the United States grapples with the skyrocketing cases, that COVID-19 “as we are dealing with it now is not here to stay.”
“We have many more tools developed, and we continue to develop them, that may contain Covid and other Covid strains,” added the president.
His administration has been criticized for failing to meet the demand for covid test kits during the Christmas season, which coincided with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.
The United States has the highest number of covid deaths in the world, with more than 830,000. And it registered more than a million new cases on Monday, its highest daily rate of cases since the start of the pandemic.
“We’re going to be able to control this,” Biden said.
“The new normal is not going to be what it is now; it will be better.”
