Guarantees maximum security for the residents of Lagos by 2022
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said yesterday that more than N3 billion had been spent to equip the Nigerian Police in 2021 in their quest to ensure the safety of residents.
He ensured that his government in 2022 would ensure that the state remains the safest and most secure state with far-reaching support to security officers in Nigeria.
The governor, who stated this at the 15th city hall on state government security, organized by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) at the Civic Center, Victoria Island, with the theme “Re-conceptualizing Security and Protection in the State of Lagos ”, He argued that the government will continue to play the leading role in securing the state, and said that it has demonstrated commitment in the past and will remain determined in the pursuit of improving peace and security.
“The Lagos State Neighborhood Security Agency has been reorganized to play a more active role in providing intelligence in line with the community policing structure and to provide manpower support to increase police resources in areas such as crowd control, traffic management and other community responsibilities of the engagement.
LSSTF Executive Secretary / CEO Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, speaking about the challenges facing the Fund, said donations to the state portfolio remained low and were among the top drawbacks in 2021.
Balogun said that only three banks donated to the Fund in 2021, adding that LSSTF received N1.4 billion, much of which was the payment of promises made in previous years.
He said that while the amount seemed huge, it became negligible considering the need to keep the state safe for individuals and businesses to prosper.
ALSO, LSSTF President, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, said that the Fund had continued to play an important role in improving the state’s security architecture.
SIMILARLY, Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu, who claimed that 2021 posed a major security challenge with the #EndSARS protests, said the state did not record any attacks on any banks, which is commendable.
