Ebonyi officials to receive bags of rice, N10,000 as 'Christmas gifts'

Public officials, including retirees, in Ebonyi state in southeastern Nigeria will receive two 5kg bags of rice and 10,000 naval bags each as “Christmas gifts” from the state government, a senior government official said.

Ebonyi State Government (SSG) Secretary Kenneth Ugbala, who revealed this in a statement Thursday in Abakaliki said the N10,000 cash would be paid into the workers’ salary account.

Ugbala said that the state governor, David umahi, has approved the distribution of cash and bags of rice.

Local government workers, as well as students from higher institutions in the state, will benefit from the government’s generosity, according to a report by the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

Ugbala said the governor’s approval was in line with his “customary magnanimity” as “the father of the state.”

“All Ebonyi civil servants and retirees will receive two 5 kg bags of rice and 10,000 naira to be credited to their salary accounts.

“All the personnel of the Local Government Area must receive two bags of rice of 5 kg, cans of tomatoes and 5,000 N that will be credited to their salary accounts.

“All the ministries, departments and agencies of the state that are owned by the federal government have received Christmas relief through their leaders.

“Staff and students at state and federal tertiary institutions have also received Christmas relief through their leaders,” the statement said.

The SSG thanked Mr. Umahi for his “generosity to the people.”
