The Acting Coordinator of the NEMA Lagos Territorial Office, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.
Farinloye said returnees stranded in Libya departed from Mitiga International Airport, Tripoli, aboard a chartered Buraq Boeing 737-8GK aircraft with flight number BRQ UZ 189/190 and registration number 5A-DMG.
He said the flight arrived at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday night around 8:35 p.m. Nigerian time.
“The returnees were returned to the country by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) through the voluntary repatriation program for people in danger.
“They had left the country in search of greener pastures in several European countries, but could not afford to return when their journey was thwarted,” he said.
Farinloye said the returnees were 74 adult women, 14 boys with six girls, 64 adult men, 12 male children and 10 baby boys.
He said returnees would be held during the mandatory seven-day isolation period before they were allowed to go to their respective locations, for those who have no traces of any particular medical problem.
“During the periods of isolation, returnees will be trained in various skills acquisition and small-scale entrepreneurship techniques.
“Those who are semi-skilled will receive further training and those who wish to embark on entrepreneurial ventures will find it easier to start on a strong note.
“These are intended for rehabilitation and to engage them for proper reintegration into their respective communities after the period of isolation,” Farinloye added.
He said that the Port Health Unit of the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Commission for Resilience, Migration and Internally Displaced Persons, NAPTIP and the Nigerian Immigration Service received the returnees at the airport.
