Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the FCT minister, has called on the FCT wing of the Nigerian Teachers Union (NUT) to suspend its ongoing strike, which currently affects primary schools run by Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in councils of the area.
The Minister made this appeal after the meeting of the FCT Security Committee in November on Thursday.
Bello said that members of the FCT Safety Committee also made similar calls to the NUT to call off the strike, saying that continued industrial action was playing into the hands of elements determined to paralyze the country.
The Minister also said: “The foundation of our education is the primary education system and we must not allow students to suffer from problems that are not really their fault. The presidents of the area councils are making commitments with the teachers and we are sure that they will reach an agreement ”.
“My call to teachers is this, no society can develop without education.”
Therefore, he urged Area Council administrators, religious and traditional leaders to engage with teachers.
Speaking on other security issues, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the heads of the FCT security agencies for the improvements in the security situation in the Territory in recent weeks.
He said that a series of incidents, including kidnapping, were prevented with the cooperation of security agents and the public, adding that in a certain community, criminals had perfected plans to kidnap a pastor along with a member of his family. , but the plan was foiled. and the criminals arrested.
The minister revealed that of the number of arrests made in recent weeks, a criminal network operating in the FCT and neighboring states had certainly been broken.
Bello expressed his optimism that the interventions of the FCT Administration will yield the desired safety results for the New Year.
Let us remember that the FCT chapter of the NUT started a five-day warning strike on November 18 for the non-payment of their delayed promotion salaries, the lack of updating of teachers and insecurity, among others.
Knabayi said the teachers’ demands are divided into two parts, adding that teachers from the FCT administration and those from the area councils are affected.
