Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has submitted a new list of proposed commissioners to the state House of Assembly.
The secretary of the Chamber, Olalekan Onafeko, during the plenary session on Monday, read a letter containing the new list, signed by Mr. Sanwo-Olu.
In the letter seen by Newslodge, the governor urged lawmakers to “screen these candidates for approval.”
“The successful formation of the state executive council is a crucial step in our collective to ensure a fair, equitable and prosperous Lagos State,” he said.
The list comprises 18 names, including some of those previously rejected by lawmakers.
In July, the governor had submitted the names of 39 candidates, but the House approved 22 and rejected 17.

This fact generated divergent opinions in the public space, and many interpreted that the governor and the spokesperson were in disagreement.
Later, the state’s Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) met amid the dispute over the development.

Five of the six former commissioners initially rejected by the House are included in the new list sent to the legislative chamber for a second chance.
Former commissioners include Gbenga Omotoso (Information and Strategy), Akin Abayomi (Health) and Sam Egube (Economic Planning and Budget).
Others are Cecilia Dada (Women’s Issues and Poverty Alleviation) and Olalere Odusote (Energy Resources).
Folashade Adefisayo, former Commissioner for Education, does not appear on the second list.
House Speaker Mudashiru Obasa urged selection committee chairman Fatai Mojeed to ensure a thorough selection process during the exercise.
The ad hoc committee will report its findings to the House on Thursday.
