The chairman of the Takum local government council in Taraba state, Boyi Manga, has been kidnapped.
A police corporal attached to him was killed during the kidnapping.
Newslodge has learned that Mr. Manga was kidnapped on Sunday afternoon around noon.
He was kidnapped on the Chachanji road, near the village of Agaraga, in the local government of Takum.
A police source told Newslodge that the politician was kidnapped and his orderly shot dead while on his way to council headquarters.
The identity of the kidnappers is unknown. It is not known if his family has been contacted at the time of this report.
The kidnappers took the president’s vehicle, a Toyota Prado truck, and the AK-47 pistol from his police guard.
When contacted by Taraba state police spokesman Usman Abdullahi, he said he had heard about the incident but had not yet received any official information on the matter.

Kidnapping for ransom is widespread in many parts of Taraba state.
Last week, a Toyota Hiace bus carrying passengers on the same route was stopped by bandits and two passengers kidnapped in the incident.
Similarly, armed men invaded the home of one Joshua Yusuf in Mayo Dassa in Jalingo, the state capital, and kidnapped his wife, two children and his domestic staff.
