He National Commission of Universities (NUC) has approved new academic programs for the American University of Nigeria (AUN), said the management of the private university.
Institution spokesman Daniel Okereke said in a statement on Friday that the approvals were conveyed in a letter to the university president and signed by NB Saliu, Director of Academic Planning at NUC on March 3, 2023.
According to the statement, the programs approved by the regulatory body include a Master of Science in Communication for Social and Behavior Change and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in hybrid modality.
He said the MSc in Communication for Social and Behavior Change was developed and will be carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Other programs
Mr. Okereke added that the NUC has also approved master’s and doctoral programs in Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD), Petroleum Chemistry, English Language and Literature.
“(This) would allow candidates to take full advantage of AUN’s advanced technological support and learning facilities to advance their academic and professional careers,” he said. “All newly approved Graduate School programs will begin in the fall 2023 semester.”
American University of Nigeria (AUN) Acting President Attahir Yusuf, a professor, described the new approvals as an affirmation of NUC’s confidence in AUN’s institutional integrity.
He noted that AUN recently received approval from NUC to introduce B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree programs in data science and analytics as well as computer science, software engineering, and information systems, which the university offers at the bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, graduate, and professional levels.
