He Nigerian Customs Service turned over 1,165 cartons of fake Analgin injections seized at the Onne Seaport in Rivers State to NAFDAC on Tuesday.
The drug was discovered in one of the 26 containers seized at the port.
Also seized in the port were 24,860 gallons of 25 liters and 10 liters of vegetable oil, 216 cartons of colored flowers, fireworks and 210 cartons of firecrackers, among others.
A separate container of 20-foot machetes was detained by Customs for documentation purposes pending delivery of the end-user certificate.
Port Customs Area Comptroller Imam Baba said the total value of duty paid for the 26 containers was N94.7 million.
He explained that the seizures and arrests were made based on violations related to import guidelines.
Mr. Baba listed the violations to include importation of contraband goods, false declaration, and failure to comply with the end-user certificate requirements of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Mr. Baba added that the Customs Service would apply for expropriation of the seized containers at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt for subsequent forfeiture from the Federal Government.
The controller noted that the command had achieved 16.3 per cent of its revenue target of N336 billion by 2023, having raised N55 billion as of March 28.
Upon receiving the seized drugs, Arhagba Anthony, Deputy Director of Port Operations, NAFDAC, Rivers State, thanked the Customs Service for their cooperation in combating the importation of fake drugs into the country.
Anthony advised importers to always follow legitimate processes to save the nation from drug-related deaths.
