The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Monday, confirmed that three persons were burnt beyond recognition in Anambra State when their vehicle caught fire along Ezinano-Nkwo on Agulu Road in Anaocha Local Government Area.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra, Adeoye Irelewuyi, told newsmen that the incident caused by speeding and improper overtaking occurred on Sunday night.
“Seven people were involved, four men and three women; three died and two were injured. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to a morgue near the area,” he said.
Expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased, the sector commander warned drivers not to exceed speed limits and not make improper overtakes.
One of the injured passengers receiving treatment at the hospital told reporters that the 14-seater Mitsubishi 300 bus was heading to Ekwulọbịa from Amawbia.
He said the deceased were the driver and two passengers (a man and a woman).
“Shortly after taking off from Amawbia, one of the passengers warned the driver not to speed up, but he did not listen.
“While trying to avoid a pothole, the driver lost control and the bus veered off the road, somersaulted and burst into flames after hitting the fence of a building on the side of the road.
“I managed to escape with other passengers, but we could not help the three victims who were already engulfed in the flames,” the injured passenger said through tears.
