Epic Games, the creator of the popular video game “Fortnite,” said Thursday that it had received a $ 250 million investment from Sony in Japan for a minority stake in the company.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Epic was close to raising a $ 750 million round of financing, from investors such as T. Rowe Price Group and Baillie Gifford, at a valuation of approximately $ 17 billion.

Epic, which also developed the game engine “Unreal”, received $ 1.25 billion in investor funds here in 2018, including KKR.

Sony is set to launch its next-generation PlayStation 5 console later this year, with titles including “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” by Ubisoft and “Grand Theft Auto V” by Rockstar Games.
