The National President of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ambali Akeem Olatunji, has accused the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, of meddling in the affairs of NULGE in the state.
Olatunji said the union was displeased by Otti’s alleged recent imposition of his puppets as executives of the union in the state, Tribune reported.
The NULGE Chairman, who spoke in Akure, Ondo State, during the inauguration of a new NULGE Chairman in the state, Fredrick Akinrinlola, said there was no leadership crisis in the Abia State chapter of the union. before Otti was elected.
He described Mr Otti’s alleged action as “executive recklessness”, accusing the governor of forcing his cronies on the union to take over leadership of NULGE in the state.
Some state governors often want to impose weak candidates like NULGE executives in their states to control them and make them unable to engage with the government, he said.
“We had one recently in Abia, we held elections before the new government came, the new government came in and was trying to destabilize the union, this is a contradiction for the union movement, the administration turned out to be a disappointment. to work,” Mr. Olatunji said.
“NULGE is warning Abia Governor Alex Otti for his undue interference in the affairs of NULGE and his attempt to hijack the leadership of the union and we reject it. He (Otti) has no right to annul our election and impose on his brothers and cronies to take over the leadership of the union,” he added.
Another grouse with Otti
Olatunji discussed another union issue with Governor Otti.
“We are disappointed that after the holding of our elections before the inauguration of the current administration in Abia State of Governor Otti of the Labor Party, he (Otti) assumed office and the first thing he did was go after the union industrial and tried to take the leadership of the NURTW, which was rejected by the NLC,” he alleged.
Governor Otti’s spokesperson, Kasie Uko, and his media assistant, Ferdinand Ekeoma, did not respond to calls and text messages from Newslodge seeking their comments.
