The Nigerian delegation at the G77+China Summit led by Vice President Kashim Shettima signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Republic of Cuba to further enhance collaboration in the field of Innovation, Science and Technology between the two countries.
The signing ceremony that took place on Saturday on the sidelines of the G77+China Summit at the Palco Hotel in Havana, is the highlight of Nigeria’s participation in the summit.
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, signed on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria
After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the minister praised President Bola Tinubu for his visionary leadership that has resulted in the agreement.
He assured that Nigeria would maximize the opportunities provided by the bilateral agreement and emphasized that the implementation of the agreement would begin in earnest.
He expressed his determination to establish the appropriate mechanism to develop the modalities of the action program.
Shettima stated that Nigeria attaches great importance to South-South cooperation as a platform to promote sustainable development of the global South.
The bilateral agreement that would focus on R&D and human resource development would further deepen the partnership between the two countries.
Areas of cooperation covered by the bilateral agreement include biotechnology; Scientific research and innovation; technological development; human resources development; Exchange of specialists in the area of science and technology and technology transfer for development areas.

It may be recalled that before the commencement of the Summit, Mr. Shettima had told the Vice President of Cuba during his visit that Nigeria would take advantage of the opportunity offered by the summit to sign a very important Memorandum of Understanding with Cuba for agricultural, scientific and technological.
The historic event was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adamu Lamuwa, the Nigerian Ambassador to Cuba, Ben Okoye, and other senior government officials.
