He Birnin Kebbi Federal University (FUBK) has announced the appointment of Aliyu Abdullahi, Professor, as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor.
The university’s governing council did not confirm Abdullahi’s appointment during its 26th meeting held on May 10-11, Jamilu Magaji, a university spokesman, said in a statement.
He said that Mr. Abdullahi succeeds Kasimu Shehu, also a professor, adding that the two-year appointment will take effect from Thursday, May 11.
Other appointments
Meanwhile, the vice chancellor of the university, Muhammad Umar, a professor, also approved the appointment of other people to various posts in the institution.
He reappointed the previous Deputy Vice Chancellor, Kasimu Shehu, as Director of Research and Innovation; Isa Abor, Professor of the Department of Mathematics as Director, Consulting and Entrepreneurship, and Kabiru Umar of the Department of Chemistry, as Director of the School of Basic Studies.
Newslodge also learned that the Vice Chancellor also approved the appointment of MDA Bunza, Professor of Biological Sciences, as Director of General Studies; Sirajo Bakura as Deputy Director of the Student Industrial Work Experience Program (SIWES); Abubakar Musa as Deputy Director of Entrepreneurship; Ahmad Saidu as deputy director of the School of Basic Studies and Yazid Salihu as deputy director of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
“Their appointments will be effective as of April 27, 2023,” the university spokesperson said, adding that “the new appointees are tasked with bringing their wealth of experience to bear in the performance of their roles and responsibilities.”
About the new DVC
The new Assistant Vice Chancellor, Mr. Abdullahi, was Director of Academic Planning and Associate Dean of the Graduate School from 2021. He also served as Assistant Director of Academic Planning from 2015 to 2021, as well as Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at 2018 to 2023.
Mr. Abdullahi has a BS and MS degree in Biochemistry from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto in 1996 and 2006 respectively. He obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Greenwich, UK in 2014.
“Between 2007 and 2008, he also obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Food Safety and a Certificate in Applied Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) from the University of Greenwich and the UK’s Royal Institute of Public Health,” said the university.
“He started his teaching career as a professor at the Zuru College of Agriculture in 1998. He joined the services of Birnin Kebbi Federal University on May 26, 2015 as Professor I in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, where he rose through the ranks to become a teacher in 2022.”
