The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N449.9 million for the hiring of consultants for the development of the master plan for 17 airports in Nigeria.
Principal Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity Garba Shehu had this to say when briefing House correspondents on Wednesday after the FEC meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr. Shehu listed the airports as: Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Port Harcourt International Airport and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
Others are: Owerri, Imo, Benin, Edo, Enugu, Enugu State, Maiduguri, Borno, Yola, Adamawa and Calabar airports.
The rest are those of Calabar, Ilorin Sokoto, Ibadan, Jos, Akure and Katsina.
Mr. Shehu said the council has also approved a N3.4 billion post-contract consultancy for the construction of the second runway and associated facilities at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The presidential adviser said that contracts for the remediation of Ogoni in Rios have also been approved.
Mr. Shehu said: “Two important contracts have been approved for Ogoniland, Rivers, and you know, Ogoni is one of the flagships of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“There are water projects that have been awarded in the second phase in the amount of N22.8 billion.
“The contract award for the remediation of newly identified oiled sites along the Ogoniland coast for N107 billion was also approved.”
Mr. Shehu said that the FCT has also won a large number of approvals, including the contract for the full-scope development of Shehu Shagari Way for N91 billion.
He added: “Another is for Rubochi Township Road Rehabilitation and Rubochi-Gwagwalada Rehabilitation in FCT for around N5.7 billion.
“The Council also approved the contract for the construction of a 3.2 kilometer road to the Kwali Bridge in the Kwalli Area Council of the FCT for around N1.6 billion.
“Another FCT contract is for the revised cost estimate of the contract for the provision of engineering infrastructure in lot 11 of the Guzape district in the FCT and the contract amount is N28 billion.
“And the fifth approval for FCT is for the revised total cost estimate/increment of the contract for the provision of an access road to Kabusa Garden Estate, Dako district in FCT and this is for N6.6 billion.”
Shehu said that approvals have also been made to the Ministry of Public Works for the rehabilitation of various roads across the country.
It said the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has also got approval for the construction of the FIRS multi-storey office complex at Agidingbi Training School, Ikeja, Lagos for N10.3 billion.
Mr. Shehu said, “The Ministry of Finance has also obtained approval for the construction of the Nigeria Customs Zone B headquarters at Mando and Afaka in Kaduna.”
Furthermore, he said that the Ministry of Interior also obtained approval for the establishment of the National Institute for Domestic Security in Irogbo-Ilesha, Osun.
“This is for research and capacity building of paramilitary agencies and other relevant stakeholders both within and in Nigeria.
“This is to ensure a peaceful and secure nation, with a budget provision of N285 million in the 2022 budget and N360 million in the 2023 budget,” he said.
