The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N41.4 billion for the construction of a Center of Excellence for environmental restoration in the Khana Local Government Rivers Area.
Environment Minister Mohammed Abdullahi revealed this while briefing House correspondents on the outcome of the Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja.
”I submitted two memorandums, one was for the award of the contract for the construction of a center of excellence for environmental restoration in the Kana local government area of Rivers state for the sum of N41,472,263,848.60, with an execution period of 24 months,” he said.
Mr. Abdullahi said the center will facilitate an efficient and cost-effective approach to pollution management and environmental restoration, as well as provide training on environmental remediation.
“The center will contain an administrative block, an auditorium, a research building, as well as dormitories for men and women, a library and a clinic, among others.”
The minister added that the council also approved N18.3 billion for the construction of a specialist hospital for the Ogoni people in Rivers.
He said: “The second memorandum, which is equally approved, which is also in line with the UNEP Report on level components, is the contract for the construction of the 100-bed Ogoni specialized hospital in favor of Messrs. Tannit Medical Engineering Limited, in the amount of N18,308,463,225.37, plus 7.5% VAT, with a delivery period of 24 months.
“The scope of the project includes the construction of an administrative building, main reception, radiology, general outpatient consultation, emergency department, general laboratory, personnel section, dining room, laundry, hospitalization department, intensive care unit, high dependency unit, Surgical Ward, Central Sterilization and Storage Department, Internal Patients Department II, Maternity Wards, Labor and Delivery Wards, Security and Nursery Wards, etc.
“These are projects that are tied to the… program, as contemplated in the UNEP Report, in addition to the remediation component, there are eleven competent ones to support the well-being of people who have been impacted by the negative effects of contamination in those areas. . Thank you so much.”
