The story has been told of how the charismatic actor olu jacobs he was late for his wedding, but his wife and actress silva joke has shared more information.
The 60-year-old actress opened up about her love story in a documentary about her husband’s life and career produced by Femi Odugbemi.
She detailed how they met on a production set and the journey to their love story.
“It was just before Nigeria’s 21st anniversary celebration. Edith Enem was the artistic director of the National Theater at the time and they wanted to put on a production of ‘The Metamorphosis of Jero,’” she recalled.
According to her, the set was filled with this man who came from England named Olu Jacobs and was going to play the main character, Jero. She remembered that with the emotion that they talked about him, she hoped to meet him (Olu Jacobs).
She said, “We were rehearsing one day at the main bowl…and they told me to go call Mrs. Enem to come over and take a look at what we had rehearsed. And when I opened the curtain, I heard an amazing voice saying ‘Wow! This is the standard of the woman I am going to marry. And I’m like what kind of standard line is that, and I looked it up and down and I thought, what rubbish.
“But he came to rehearsals and was a wonderful person to work with. He realized that he had made a false move and tried to curry favor with me after that. And we became great friends,” she said.
That was the beginning of what has led to 37 years of happy marriage.

She also remembered that Olu Jacobs was nowhere to be found on the morning of her wedding.
“When he finally arrived, he apologized profusely and explained why he was absent. She said fine, they partied until the early hours of the day. Everyone fell asleep, and the people who were supposed to wake him up at 9:30 woke up just as the service started at 10. He woke up at 9:30 am. And he started screaming and waking everyone up,” he said.

In an interview, he explained why his wife still carries her maiden name, Silva.
“She is his guy. When I met her, she was an actress known as Joke Silva, so why should marrying me deny her audience her name? She is Miss Joke Silva, who is Mrs. Joke Jacobs. She is as simple as that. People now start to say all kinds. They have even written that we are separated and all kinds of things. When she is working, she is Joke Silva, but at home she is Mrs. Joke Jacobs,” she said.
