A terrorist group, the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP), claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack on the Kuje Custody Center in Abuja.

In a video shared by the terror group on Wednesday, many of the inmates were seen fleeing the prison as the terrorists chanted ‘Allahu Akbar’.

ISWAP is a splinter faction of the Boko Haram sect that has terrorized the northeastern region of Nigeria for more than a decade.

Africa, particularly the Lake Chad region of which the northeastern part of Nigeria is a part, is also fighting ISWAP terrorists who are believed to be affiliated with ISIS.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the attackers freed hundreds of inmates.

An official also said that four inmates and a security officer were killed during the attack.

Some 443 inmates remain at large, while another 443 have been recaptured, a spokesman said.

Some 64 of the inmates who remain at large are members of the terrorist group, boko haraam.

The terrorists were also said to have issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack. However, PREMIUM TIMES has not yet verified the statement.
