The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu Ball, he did not meet Governor Nyesom Wike of France’s Rivers state, the APC leader’s spokesman said.

A statement from the Tinubu Media Office on Friday described media reports of the meeting as “fake news”.

“It has become imperative to set the record straight. Although Asiwaju Tinubu is currently in France, he did not have any meetings with Governor Wike either in that country or anywhere else,” read the statement released by Tunde Rahman, Tinubu’s spokesman.

“This, however, does not detract from the fact that the APC presidential candidate holds Governor Wike in high regard.”

Tinubu, a former Lagos governor, traveled to France on Monday “for an important meeting”, his spokesman said in a statement earlier this week.

Wike, who lost the DPP’s presidential bid to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is vacationing in Turkey, some 3,000 kilometers from France.

PRESS RELEASE

Asiwaju Tinubu’s alleged meeting with Governor Wike in France is fake news

We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the heads of the Congress of All Progressives in Lagos state and the media reports emanating from it about an alleged meeting in France between the APC presidential standard bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

It has become imperative to make things clear. Although Asiwaju Tinubu is currently in France, he did not meet Governor Wike in that country or anywhere else.

However, this does not detract from the fact that the APC presidential candidate holds Governor Wike in high regard. And given the national and cross-party appeal of Asiwaju Tinubu’s candidacy, he will not hesitate to meet with any major national leader whenever he wishes.

As previously made public, Asiwaju Tinubu is in France for some important engagements. He will soon return to the country.

We would like to once again advise journalists to always verify their information with the appropriate officials before rushing to pressure to avoid unwanted errors.
