The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) said on Wednesday that Iyorchia Ayu remained its national president.
Senior Advisor to the National President on Communication and Strategy, Simon Imobo-Tswam, reiterated this in a statement he issued in Abuja.
Mr Imobo-Tswam advised the public to ignore malicious social media posts alleging Mr Ayu’s suspension, describing it as the work of mischief makers and idle minds.
“Earlier today, mischievous stories surfaced on social media to the effect that Ayu has been suspended over allegations of misappropriation.
“The stories also add that the National Vice President (North), Amb. Umar Damagun, has been appointed in his place as interim.
“This is supposed to have followed a ghost emergency meeting of the PDP’s National Labor Committee (NWC),” he said.
Imobo-Tswam said that while the party did not want to dignify falsehood with a response, an official reaction was needed to stem the tide of misinformation.
He said Mr. Ayu took a “well deserved” two-week leave on June 12, nothing that he would return on July 6 to resume his duties.

Mr. Imobo-Tswam said that, as a supporter of due process, Mr. Ayu formally handed over the post to the National Vice President (North), Mr. Damagun, who had advocated admirably since that day.
“It was in that interim capacity that he (Damagun) today presided over the inauguration of the Osun State Government Campaign Council, headed by Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri,” he said.
Imobo-Tswam said that if the authors of the naughty posts were not in the service of nefarious interests, they would have listened when Damagun said during Wednesday’s ceremony that he was acting on behalf of Ayu.
