The Niger Police Command confirmed on Saturday the kidnapping of two residents of the village of Doma by armed men in Lapai Local Government Area of the State.
Wasiu Abiodun, Public Relations Officer for the Command, announced this to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Minna on Saturday.
Abiodun said that on June 22, suspected kidnappers kidnapped the two victims from Duma village, Lapai, while they were working on a farm and disappeared into the forest in Rafin-Daji, Abaji area.
“Unfortunately, the Police tactical team with some vigilantes who were in a rescue operation, confronted the kidnappers while one of the vigilantes lost his life.
He said that police teams were on the trail of the thugs to stop them.
Abiodun called on residents, especially those in rural areas, to remain calm as the police and other security agencies will not give up the ongoing fight against banditry.
He asked law enforcement agencies to support them by providing intelligence that could help detain criminal elements in the state.
He also called on them not to hesitate to report any person or group of people with gunshot wounds to the nearest security body so that the necessary measures can be taken.
