The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Hale Gabriel Longpet (Plateau) as Resident Election Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr. Longpet’s confirmation followed the consideration of a report by the Electoral Affairs Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya (Kano South), in his introduction, said that the nomination of Mr. Longpet was made in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 ( modified).
It revealed that the nominee, when appearing before the Selection Committee, explained his personal life, work experiences, suitability, competence and integrity for the appointment as INEC Commissioner.

He said committee members praised the candidate’s impressive resume and satisfactory answers to questions posed.
Subsequently, the candidate was confirmed by the upper house.
