Security agents have demolished the hideout of the kidnappers in the community of Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The hideout, a former bungalow building, was demolished when the joint state security task force raided the area on Friday.
The operation lasted about five hours, PREMIUM TIMES learned.
Christian Aburime, the spokesman for Gov. Charles Soludo, confirmed as much in a statement on Saturday.
He said the demolition exercise would serve to deter other criminals terrorizing the state.
Aburime said a locally made gun, charms, concoctions and Indian hemp were recovered during a recent raid in the area.
in a published video clip on social media, Soludo was seen addressing journalists about the outcome of the raid.
The governor said the demolition was in line with state government policy to seize or demolish any property used for criminal activity in the state.
“That demolished building was being used as a hideout for criminal activity, and government policy will not allow any crime to reign in the state,” he said.
Soludo urged people to be security conscious at all times and report criminals operating in their communities to law enforcement agencies.
He assured that his administration is totally determined to ensure that the state is safe for all and that people can move freely without fear.
Anambra, like other southeastern states, is dealing with deadly attacks by gunmen.
There has also been an increase in kidnapping incidents in the state lately.
The latest raid comes just a week after police officers in the state killed some suspected kidnappers in Ekwulobia, the Aguata local government area of the state.
The suspects were said to have been killed after operatives thwarted their attempt to kidnap an unidentified resident of the area.
