Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was not involved in any traffic accidents in Abuja on Monday, said his spokesman, Laolu Akande.
Mr. Akande was reacting in a tweet to some media reports about an alleged road accident involving Mr. Osinbajo in Abuja.
He clarified in a tweet that the vice president’s convoy encountered a traffic accident and ensured that the victims were taken to the hospital in his convoy before heading to the airport.
“On his way to the airport this morning, VP encountered a traffic accident, stopped to render assistance and ensured that (the) victim was taken to the hospital by VP’s convoy ambulance. He then continued his journey and is now in Ondo State and heading to the site of yesterday’s attack in Owo,” he tweeted.
Akande said the vice president was on his way to the airport to fly to Owo in Ondo state to deliver the presidency’s condolences to the victims of Sunday’s mass murder of worshipers at a Catholic church in the ancient city.
He said: “The VP is heading to Owo, (Ondo State this morning) where worshipers were viciously attacked yesterday resulting in many casualties. He will personally deliver the president’s condolences and message.”
The armed men were said to have entered the church and fired on worshipers indiscriminately. The number of victims has not yet been determined.
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu visited the community on Sunday, where he promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The killings have been widely condemned by President Muhammadu Buhari, Osinbajo and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
A statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina, quoted the president as saying that “the country will never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never defeat light. Nigeria will eventually win.”

Anselm Ologunwa, president of the CAN in Ondo state, also described the act as barbaric and wicked.
He said: “The murder of some innocent souls in the name of any form is the highest criminality that everyone should stand up and condemn in our society.
“How can some people wake up out of nowhere and decide to kill their fellow man unjustly without resorting to God’s judgment?”
For its part, the Owo Federal Medical Center has also requested blood donations from the survivors of the attack.
