A doctor, Victor Raji, who received the late Peju Ugboma after she was transferred to evercare hospitalHe said the chances of survival of the deceased were low.
He testified at the ongoing forensic investigation into the circumstances of the death of Peju Ugboma, the Lagos-based chef at a trial court in Ogba, Lagos.
the deceased had undergone fibroid surgery in premier hospital but was transferred on April 25, 2021 to Evercare on an emergency basis where she ultimately died the same day.
Mr. Raji told the coroner that he is a clinical care physician and an anesthetic consultant. He also claimed that he is also the head of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

During an interrogation by the family’s lawyer, Babatunde Ogungbamila, Mr. Raji explained his relationship with the deceased after receiving her.
He said his first contact with the patient was around 12 noon on April 25 in the hospital’s emergency unit, also called Ambulance Bay.
He noted that he was not on duty but was called by his colleague, a neurologist, to attend to the patient.
He said he observed that she was “very pale” and in a “desperate state.”
Mr. Raji said that he had respiratory failure, shock from sepsis and kidney failure.
“The patient was very ill, her blood pressure was very low, her heart rate was very fast… her breathing rate was also very fast and labored,” he added.
He pointed out that the Premier hospital sent them the medical history and diagnosis of the deceased.
The doctor said he did not see abdominal drainage, but noted “massive blood loss.”
The doctor explained prerenal insufficiency and stated that the causes include underlying causes that can be triggered randomly.
Raji said he believed the deceased could have been better monitored.

A representative from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) also questioned Mr. Raji.
The doctor explained that at the time the deceased was taken to Evercare hospital, they could not have kidney dialysis because she would not survive.
Asked how long it takes to prepare for a patient with deceased condition, Mr. Raji said they were always ready and had processes in place to make sure they could respond immediately.
The state and defense attorneys deferred their cross-examination until the next postponed date, June 20, on the grounds that they only received Mr. Raji’s statement less than 48 hours ago.
