We are after foreigners operating Okada in Lagos – Police Commissioner

The Police Commissioner in lakes stateAbiodun Alabi says that the command persecutes foreigners who operate as commercial motorcyclists in the state.

Alabi revealed this on Friday in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Lagos.

He said police were aware of some foreigners operating as motorcyclists in the state and were pursuing them.

The police chief spoke as 13 suspects paraded through the headquarters, allegedly involved in various crimes in the last month.

NAN reports that many of the motorcyclists operating in Lagos and some neighboring states are Nigerian, Togolese, Beninese and Chadian.

“We are aware that many commercial motorcyclists operating in Lagos are foreigners and we have started routine checks with the aim of profiling them.

“When we finish profiling them, we will hand them over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and possible repatriation,” he said.

On the entry of motorcycles into Lagos state, Alabi said the command was activating the old strategy by deploying officers to all border cities to check all means of importing motorcycles into the state.

“We are going to carry out the old strategy that no motorcycle enters the state. We will confiscate any motorcycle found in any vehicle entering Lagos,” he said.

The police commissioner had advised on Thursday that people should stop giving away motorcycles as a means of empowerment, and embrace other meaningful businesses.

Alabi was reacting to a total ban on commercial motorcycles in some local government areas in Lagos.

“People who buy Okada (motorcycles) as empowerment for people should rethink.

“The fact is that banning the okada in Lagos while some people are incorporating them through empowerment is giving the police problems to implement the already existing laws,” he said.
