Police have announced the arrest of the kidnappers of Greenfield University students in Kaduna state.
Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, who released this in a statement on Wednesday, said other suspects had also been arrested.
The arrest of the suspects comes a year after the remaining 14 kidnapped students were released after 40 days in captivity.
The students were kidnapped from the private university in Kaduna state on April 20, 2021 after bandits invaded their hostels.
Five of the kidnapped students were later killed by the bandits.
Adejobi, in the statement, said some of the items recovered include 61 firearms, including 41 AK rifles, 8 Type 06 rifles, 4 Light Assault Rifles (LARs), 4 pump-action pistols, 2 locally manufactured, 1 G3 rifle, 1 dane pistol and 376 live ammunition cartridges of different calibers.
He said that all the suspects will be processed in court once the investigations are completed.

The operatives of the Special Tactical Squad of the Force Intelligence Office (FIB-STS) following the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, to take drastic measures against the perpetrators of crimes and delinquency, as well as cutting off their supply of weapons, have secured the arrest of 31 suspects related to major violent crimes, including kidnapping, manslaughter, rape, illegal possession of firearms, etc.
FIB-STS also recovered a total of 61 firearms, including 41 AK rifles, 8 Type 06 rifles, 4 Light Assault Rifles (LAR), 4 pump action pistols, 2 locally made firearms, 1 rifle G3, 1 dane pistol, 376 rounds of live ammunition of different calibers and a cash sum of two million naira, from the suspects in the course of the investigations.
The most high-profile cases include a kidnapping case in which the duo of Aminu Lawal (also known as Kano) and Murtala Dawu (also known as Mugala), both working in synergy with the kidnapping kingpin known as Yellow Ashana, confessed. the kidnapping and murder of two police officers. officers and a vigilante in 2021. They also confessed to the kidnapping of Greenfield University students in Kaduna state and the senseless killing of five victims before the ransom payment and eventual release of the others. Intelligence shows that their area of operations includes Dan Hunu, Kekebi, Dan Busha Rido, Maraban Rido and Kumi Sata, all in Kaduna state. FIB-STS agents caught up with them in March 2022, after tracking them down following the mention of their names in connection with the 2021 kidnapping of students from Bethel Baptist School.
Similarly, a five-man cross-border syndicate carrying out kidnapping operations between Adamawa state in Nigeria and Burha, Fituha and Kesu in Cameroon was arrested. The gang comprising 28-year-old Abubakar Mohammed, 38-year-old Shehu Mohammed, 30-year-old Abdullahi Ali, 18-year-old Abubakar Ali and 18-year-old Hussaini Sule, all men from Mubi, Adamawa State, targets wealthy people who own beautiful homes or cars. They confessed to the kidnapping and gang rape of a newly married woman in the Askira Uba local government area of Borno state, who was released after receiving a ransom of one million naira. They were arrested by FIB-STS officers after collecting a ransom of 2 million Naira for an Alhaji Moni from Buladega Village on May 11, 2022.
FIB-STS officers also arrested the duo of Umar Muhammed, 40, from Mitchika, Adamawa State, and Musa Buba, 29, from Hong, Adamawa State, famous for their kidnapping. They were arrested at the market, based on credible information that they would be there to buy food for their kidnapped victims. They confessed to many heinous crimes, including the murder and beheading of a certain Alhaji Mai Gome, even after the ransom had been paid.
The Inspector General of the Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc, while congratulating the FIB-STS operatives for their successes, assured that all criminal elements will be removed from their hiding places and They will answer for their crimes in due time.
All suspects will be processed in court upon completion of the investigations.
