Police intercept Indian hemp worth N3 million

Lagos police have intercepted 10 bags of illicit drugs worth N3 million and they are suspected to be Indian hemp.

Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Sunday that officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on a routine patrol intercepted the vehicle around 4 a.m. on April 29, at the stadium bus stop, Surulere.

“The drugs, packed in 10 bags, were transported on a Lagos-colored commercial bus with registration number LND 995 XT from Iddo to a destination in Mushin.

“However, luck ran out for the suspects when RRS vigilante officers on routine patrol stopped the bus,” he said.

He said the bus driver, Amodu Agbaje, was arrested while his two accomplices fled.

“The arrested driver claimed that he was offered N25,000 to transport the drugs with a street value of N3,000,000.

“Lagos State Police Commissioner CP Abiodun Alabi has ordered RRS Commander CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi to transfer the suspect and exhibits to command headquarters for further investigation.” Hundeyin said.
