Nigeria’s ruling party, the Congress of all progressives (APC) on Wednesday will hold its first National Executive Committee meeting since the inception of the Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee on March 26.
Party spokesman Felix Morka, who revealed this in a press release on Friday, said the meeting will take place at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
He said that the meeting, which is convened under section 25.2.ii of the party constitution, will consider the party’s schedule of activities for the primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 General Election and other relevant party matters.
“In accordance with Article 25.2.ii of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Constitution, the National Labor Committee (NWC) hereby invites the members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great Party to a meeting to consider the Party Calendar/Schedule of Activities for the Primary for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 General Election and other relevant Party matters.
“All NEC members are invited to take note of the meeting in accordance with Article 12.3 of the APC Constitution, please,” read the official notice/invitation for the NEC meeting.
According to the schedule of INEC activities, the parties must hold their primaries and present their candidates before June 3.

The last meeting of the NEC took place in December 2020 during which it extended the mandate of the late interim leadership, approved the granting of exemptions to people who recently joined the party, approved the immediate resolution of the party organs in the voting units , districts, local, state and zonal government, among other resolutions.
Buhari, Osinbajo, others to attend the meeting
According to Article 12.3 of the APC Constitution, in addition to all NWC members, those expected at the NEC meeting are President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the 22 party governors.
Others include Senate President Ahmad Lawan, House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, their deputies, and other top officials from both chambers.

NEC is the main executive body of APC and its decisions are binding on all party members.
The Constitution also lists some of the functions of the NEC to include: “To consider the reports of the Party Chapters of the National, State and Local Government Area/Area Councils and make such decisions as may be necessary to protect, promote and consolidate the profits and interest from the party.
In addition, the party’s NEC also approves the budget, ratifying committees, and fundraising for the party.
The APC has yet to start the sale of party forms and has yet to decide the prices of the nomination forms despite the fact that the INEC calendar set June 3 for the conclusion of all primaries.
Although, days ago, a document with the schedule and prices of the forms had circulated in the media. However, the party distanced itself from the document.
Morka had said in a statement that the party had yet to decide on a timetable for the pre-election process.
