Three collapsed transmission towers on the Papalanto/Ojere 132KV double circuit lines will cut off power supply to residents of Abeokuta and those of four other cities in Ogun state, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) said on Wednesday.
In addition to the state capital, Ayetoro, Imeko, Owode Egba and Mowe are affected.
According to the statement shared on social media, IBEDC said that the collapse of the towers negatively affected the Transmission Substation (T/S) of Abeokuta, Ojere and New Abeokuta T/S in Kobape.
IBEDC senior communication officer in Ogun state, Ayodeji Bada, confirmed the development.
The distributor apologized to its consumers for the inconvenience, assuring them that it will restore power to the towers shortly.
“All the 33KV feeders of these two substations will be out of service until the towers are rebuilt.
“Power supply to the affected communities will be restored as soon as the towers are rebuilt.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”
Nigeria’s power grid has collapsed at least five times in 2022, the latest being caused by “vandalism” on a transmission tower on the Odukpani-Ikot Ekpene 330KV double-circuit transmission line, according to the Ministry of Energy.
