Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state said on Saturday that he was not afraid of key players vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2023 presidential bid.
Speaking in Abuja while answering a question at the 2nd Annual GYB Seminar for Political and Crime Correspondents and Editors, Mr. Bello reiterated that all indicators pointed to the fact that he was in the best position to win the 2023 election. for the APC.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that leaders in the 2023 presidency discussion include former Lagos State Governor and APC National Leader Bola Tinubu, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi; and the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and other candidates.
Bello said he hoped to be the party’s standard-bearer, noting that he had more than 16 million Nigerians, who had gotten their PVCs registered with Yahaya Bello’s support groups with a view to getting him elected.
He said that although Mr. Tinubu and others were founding members of APC, the foundation of a house was not enough to build the house, as other things had to be put in place for the house to stand.
The governor remained optimistic that he was most favored to win the APC ticket for president.
“To answer your question, if I am afraid of other candidates for the presidency. You mentioned Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and others. I will say no; I’m not afraid of anyone in the race for the APC presidential ticket.
“Tinubu and others are the founding members of APC, but the base is not enough. I will beat all the other contenders because I have what it takes to be a champion. My performance in Kogi State will speak for me,” he noted.
On why he always supported the younger generation, Bello said he believed Nigeria could do more with younger people in power.
Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Council National Coordinator Jonathan Zwingina said the huge success of Mr. Bello’s declaration ceremony had already sent chills down the spine of others.
According to him, he has the right qualities to lead Nigeria, with uncommon humility.
